As mentioned in the previous blog post, only your dentist can diagnose the cause of sensitive teeth. Changing your toothpaste may be of little help. At Dr. Bhutani Dental Clinic, the highly-qualified & experienced dentists have successfully treated lots of patients with teeth sensitivity issues from Indian as well as foreign shores. Patients who have experienced a loss of enamel because of improper brushing techniques have been taught how the correct way to brush teeth. In cases of severe pain, a root canal procedure has been performed. It is considered the most effective method to eliminate sensitivity. In cases where the tooth root has lost gum tissue, surgical gum graft is beneficial.
While a visit to the dentist is imperative, here is also what we suggest to reduce sensitivity:
Using a hard-bristled toothbrush can erode away the enamel. People are often also mistaken that brushing vigorously would lead to white, sparkling teeth. That too wears away the tough enamel. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush carefully near the gum line, or you could remove the gum tissue.
Limit your intake of acidic fruits and drinks – citrus fruits, fruit juice, yoghurt & tomatoes are a few examples. It is a good idea to rinse your mouth with water or chew a sugarless gum to wash away the acid after consuming these foods.
Bruxism is the involuntary grinding of teeth/ clenching of the jaw. It can lead to Tooth sensitivity. Most people grind their teeth while sleeping. Using a dental guard at night, that creates a barrier between your upper and lower teeth would be helpful.
In the end, all we have to say is, don’t ignore sensitivity. The quicker problems leading to sensitivity, like tooth decay or receding gums are treated, the better.
